Employees call for single-card expense solution

More than a third (34%) of SME employees would like a single card to pay for all expenses, to make their business travel easier.

34% of respondents said they’d like a single-card travel and fuel expense solution

That’s the finding of new research from Allstar Business Solutions, which suggests that business expense burden is causing financial stress for UK workers.

Carried out among more than 1,000 SME employees, the research found that 57% of respondents had endured financial hardship after shelling out for on the road work expenses.

It also identified that 26% of employees have looked at changing their job as a result of an employer’s on-the-road expense procedure.

And 62% of employees want their bosses to take more responsibility for paying expenses before or during their trip.

The research comes a year after Allstar partnered with Visa to launch a new combined fuel and travel expense card. Dubbed ‘Allstar Plus’, the contactless enabled card not only provides users with a solution to pay for fuel but also means that cardholders can pay for other travel-related spending, for example train tickets, meals, or hotel accommodation, where allowed by the company. Businesses retain control over spend limits and categories while also benefit from improved expense reporting, single invoicing and extended payment terms.

Thore Vestergaard, SVP and MD, commercial cards, at Allstar’s parent company, Fleetcor, commented: “The need for a payments solution to resolve the exasperation over expenses has never been more evident.”
