Providing an alternative to grey fleet vehicles, staff now have 24/7 access to five dedicated Enterprise Car Club Ford Fiestas, based at Shirehall in Shrewsbury, with more planned for the coming months. The vehicles can be booked online by the hour and accessed with a key card or mobile app.

The pilot follows a roadshow hosted by Enterprise Car Club at Shirehall to show employees how the vehicles worked and answer their questions, with further events planned for the rest of the year as other locations are brought on board.

The scheme is expected to significantly reduce the council’s current expenditure on mileage reimbursement as well as bring potential savings for staff and ease parking problems at the council’s main headquarters.

It will also help with the council’s duty of care to drivers by providing access to vehicles that are low fit for purpose as well as low emission; a number of staff have already indicated that they would switch from using their own vehicles if they knew that there was a vehicle available for them to carry out their business journeys.
