The Evoque, the new baby in the Land Rover range, will come in both five-door and three-door coupe bodystyles. The three-door provides two individual rear seats, with the option of three-seat bench if preferred, while the five-door offers enhanced practicality and extra room for rear seat passengers.

The model is expected to appeal considerably to the fleet sector, with 2WD versions being offered from early 2012 as well as 4WD – a first for a Range Rover. The engine line-up will include an updated 2.2-litre turbodiesel with 150bhp or 190bhp – in 2WD coupe guise, the 150bhp unit will achieve sub-130g/km CO2. There's also a new 240bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Three trim levels will be offered – Pure, Prestige and Dynamic – and pretty much do what they say on the tin. Pure models will feature 18-inch alloys, leather upholstery, heated front seats, an 8-inch high-resolution touch screen display, climate control air conditioning, an 11-speaker Meridian audio system with subwoofer, push-button start, Bluetooth and cruise control.

Prestige adds 19-inch alloys, metallic paint, xenon headlamps and an HDD satellite navigation system with dynamic route guidance and voice control option. There is also a rear camera, front parking sensors and automatic headlamps and windscreen wipers.

Dynamic adds extra bodykit as well as 20-inch alloys and Adaptive Dynamics featuring the MagneRide adaptive damping as standard.

Handling and safety systems include Hill Launch Assist, rear parking sensors and, on 4WD versions, Terrain Response to set up the vehicle for different off-road environments, and Hill Descent Control.

The model will go on sale in September with prices starting from £27,955 for an eD4 Pure 5-door 6 Speed manual 2WD model. Prices for the 4WD versions starting from £28,705. Meanwhile the top-of-the-range Si4 6 Speed automatic Dynamic coupé with LUX pack is available for £44,320.
