Kia reveals third-generation Sorento

Incorporating elements from the Kia Cross GT concept that debuted at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, the new Sorento also features the long bonnet and the distinctive wide D-pillars from the previous generation.

The front also gains a more upright version of Kia’s familiar “tiger-nose” grille and headlamps that sweep back into the wings. A 15mm reduction in ride height also gives a more dynamic appearance.

The new model brings increased dimensions, gaining an extra 95mm in length to 4,780mm of which 80mm has been used to increase the wheelbase. The increased length has been used to ensure more space for passengers in all three rows.

Soon-Nam Lee, vice president of overseas marketing, Kia Motors Corp., said, ‘While we have retained the name based on the tremendous success of the current model, the all-new Sorento has been completely redesigned and re-engineered, and promises to surprise customers with its thoroughly updated styling, a host of new convenience and safety technologies, as well as enhanced space, driving comfort and handling response.’

As previously revealed, Kia says the model’s cabin will ‘raise the bar in luxury’ thanks to a modern, wrap-around dashboard and a range of advanced on-board technologies, including Kia's latest HMI (human-machine interface). There’s also a large infotainment screen.

Technical details and engine line-up have not been announced yet.

Following its debut in October at the Paris Motor Show, the new Sorento is expected to reach the UK market in spring 2015.
