HMRC announces latest advisory fuel rates
HMRC has published latest advisory fuel rates, which take effect from 1 March 2020 and bring a number of changes.
The new rates see a 1ppm (pence per mile) reduction for both petrol and diesel engines over 2,000cc while the rate for LPG-engined vehicles from 1,401cc to 2,000cc also drops 1ppm.
The rest of the rates remain the same, including the electric vehicle rate, which is still 4ppm. Rates for plug-in hybrids have still not been announced although the fleet industry has regularly spoken out about their importance in ensuring PHEVs are correctly used.
The new tables are as follows (old rates in brackets):
Engine size | Petrol – amount per mile | LPG – amount per mile |
---|---|---|
1400cc or less | 12 pence (12p) | 8 pence (8p) |
1401cc to 2000cc | 14 pence (14p) | 10 pence (9p) |
Over 2000cc | 20 pence (21p) | 14 pence (14p) |
Engine size | Diesel – amount per mile |
---|---|
1600cc or less | 9 pence (9p) |
1601cc to 2000cc | 11 pence (11p) |
Over 2000cc | 13 pence (14p) |
As before, hybrid cars are to be treated as petrol or diesel vehicles.
