Citroën Ami Cargo Electric confirmed for UK sale in 2022

Citroën has confirmed it’s bringing the commercial version of its Ami electric vehicle to the UK, arriving spring 2022.

The brand announced a month ago that the two-seater passenger version Ami would arrive next year due to “unprecedented interest”, and the commercial variant is intended to provide a practical mobility solution for delivery drivers and business operators in urban areas.

It ditches the passenger seat in the Ami and replaces it with a seven-part polypropylene module that can hold up to 260 litres and 140kg of cargo or goods. Added to the existing storage space, this gives the Ami Cargo a total load capacity of 400 litres.

As with the passenger version, the Ami Cargo Electric is technically a quadricycle, not a car, and is based on the Ami One Concept that launched at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It uses an 8hp electric motor, powered by a 5.5kWh lithium battery pack, giving up to 46 miles of range.

Thanks to its zero CO2 emissions, it’s exempt from Congestion and Ultra-low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) charges.

The model is 2.41m long, 1.39m wide and 1.52m tall, and has a small turning circle of just 7.20m, ideal for city driving, manoeuvres and parking.

Like the passenger version, Ami Cargo will be adapted for the UK market, but will remain left-hand drive.

Eurig Druce, managing director of Citroën UK, said: “I am incredibly excited to see the Ami Cargo arrive in the UK next year. With more cities across the UK introducing restrictions for conventional vehicles, Ami Cargo Electric will provide businesses and fleet customers with the opportunity to continue their urban and last-mile operations in a practical, sustainable and cost-efficient way.”

Reservations for the Ami Cargo Electric are open now with a £250 refundable reservation fee. For more details, click here.

Launch timings, pricing, specification details and supply arrangements will be announced closer to launch.
