Used car and van stock shortages under focus in VRA webinar

The stock shortages affecting the used car and van markets are to come under focus in a Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA) webinar.

The webinar will look at how the semiconductor shortage, Brexit and the pandemic have affected new vehicle supply, and explore how this is impacting the used car and van sector

The sixth in the association’s ‘New Normal Briefing’ series of webinars, the event takes place at 10:00 am on Thursday 17 June.

David Bailey, professor of business economics at the University of Birmingham’s Business School, will open the presentations, explaining how the semiconductor shortage, Brexit and the pandemic have affected new vehicle supply.

A panel discussion will then explore how this is feeding through into stock shortages in the used sector. Experts on the panel include Rupert Pontin, VRA deputy chair and director of insight, Cazana; Derren Martin, head of valuations, Cap HPI and Jon Davies, brand partnership director, AutoTrader.

Philip Nothard, chair at the VRA, said: “Stock shortages and the myriad issues that they create are shaping up to be the biggest problem facing the remarketing sector this year, so this is a timely webinar.

“With the help of our speakers, we’ll be looking at the roots of the current situation, how it is likely to develop over the course of the year, and possible solutions that will help remarketing companies make appropriate plans.”

The VRA’s New Normal Briefings are being run to provide members with essential information and guidance as the industry and the general economy begin to emerge from the pandemic. They’re planned to continue until later in 2021 when the VRA will look to resume some face-to-face meetings.
