The contract hire and salary sacrifice specialist won the gold award for Best Automotive Green Practice at the Green Apple Awards ceremony, which was held in the Terrace Pavilion overlooking the River Thames at the Houses of Parliament.

The award was presented to Tusker’s CEO David Hosking by Roger Wolens, Managing Director, The Green Organisation, along with Leicester Councillor, Michael Cooke.

The Green Apple Award judges recognised the merits of Tusker’s Green Project which has a number of environmental objectives and an ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

One of these is to have only carbon neutral cars on the road within the next three years through the use of carbon offsetting for every new car added to Tusker’s Salary Sacrifice fleet. Carbon emissions are offset using a number of accredited offsetting schemes in conjunction with carbon offsetting specialists, Carbon Footprint.

In this way, Tusker expects to offset 30,000 tons of tailpipe carbon emissions by the end of this year, rising to 60,000 tons by the end of 2015.

Another green initiative is a new microsite that promotes the cost savings and environmental benefits of ultra-low emission vehicles to all Tusker drivers, and is packed with useful information to educate employees and drivers on the benefits of going electric.

And Tusker’s recent move to a green office park has supported the company‘s own carbon reduction through several green actions, including the appraisal of all electricity, water and waste usage.
