Northgate Vehicle Hire awarded with ISO 14001 accreditation
An internationally recognised standard that sets out to organisations how to put in place an effective Environmental Management System, the ISO 14001 allows a company to identify aspects of its business that impact on the environment and also understand those environmental laws that are relevant to its operations. It also enables a business to produce clear objectives and implement a management programme to achieve them, with regular reviews for continuous improvement.
Implementing an ISO 14001 environmental standard meant that Northgate could effectively balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact. Building upon its considerable environmental achievements to date, the standard follows in the footsteps of Northgate’s RoSPA award wins and supplements the robust environmental management controls that were already in place.
Colin Gilstin, Group Health, Safety and Environment manager at Northgate, commented: 'This standard is just the beginning for us in terms of continued improvements and is absolutely key when it comes to raising and improving awareness of Northgate’s environmental commitment. We are thrilled to have been recognised with this external accreditation and are now in a position to communicate our priorities to customers externally, as well as to our employees and want to improve our efforts further by setting benchmarks to continue reducing our impact on the environment moving forwards.'
Jennifer Appleton, Operations director for ISO Quality Services Ltd, commented:'We are pleased to have been working in partnership with Northgate over the past year to help implement its ISO 14001 environmental standard. As a company, ISO Quality Services Ltd believes in assisting all of our clients to become the best they can be and we congratulate Northgate on its progressive thinking towards the environment.'
'Helping our clients build environmental sustainability not only resonates with staff, suppliers and customers, but also helps to cement real cost savings and future benefits within companies,' she added.
Ensuring Northgate continues to meet environmental legislation and corporate policy requirements, the new accreditation demonstrates to employees, customers and stakeholders that the company is environmentally responsible, and it increases competitiveness and profits through potential process improvements and energy conservation. Northgate has already put new plans in place to raise awareness throughout the company and will shortly be developing a number of initiatives to engage with Northgate employees.
