The new car will initially be made available with a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine producing 335hp (340PS) and 368.8 lb.ft (500Nm) torque and will be priced from circa £56,000 OTR, the carmaker said.

Audi said performance equates to 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, while economy for the entry-level 55 TFSI returns up to 41.5mpg, corresponding to CO2 emissions of 154 grams.

All A7 Sportback models will feature a new mild hybrid system (MHEV). In real-world driving, Audi said the MHEV technology reduces fuel consumption by up to 1 gallon every 335 miles (0.7 l/100km). The 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine uses a 48V primary electrical system and a belt alternator starter (BAS) that together with a lithium-ion battery achieves a recuperation performance of up to 12kW when braking.

The new model will include an AI button that, when activated, enables remote parking pilot and remote garage pilot – both available during 2018.

UK ordering from early 2018, first deliveries in second quarter of 2018.
