New 110g/km petrol engine for Volkswagen Golf

Volkswagen has added a 128 Bhp petrol engine to the Golf line-up, which offers fuel consumption as low as 58.8 mpg with CO2 emissions from 110g/km.

Volkswagen Golf 1.5 TSI

The 1.5-litre petrol engine uses the more efficient Miller combustion cycle, while a variable-geometry turbocharger is claimed to offer a highly responsive drive from low revs; peak torque is available from 1,400rpm, all the way to 4,000rpm.

Further fuel-saving technologies include Active Cylinder Management, which can deactivate two of the four cylinders under low loads, and more advanced coasting function. At up to 80 mph, Golfs equipped with a DSG transmission will be able to switch the engine off completely when the driver lifts off the pedal, and a compact lithium-ion battery will supply power to on-board systems.

The 1.5 TSI engine is available in selected versions of the Golf and Golf Variant, priced from €23,725 (approx. £21,650) in Germany. For more of the latest industry news click here.
