Midlands Air Ambulance Charity turns to BMW for new rapid response vehicles

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has implemented a fleet of BMW X5 rapid response vehicles, completing its air operations.

The X5 xDrive30d vehicles are situated at the airbases, ready to be deployed if a helicopter is grounded, for example when it’s dark or particularly bad weather. An average of 5% of incidents are attended to in this way.

The X5s are BMW Authority vehicles, which are specially equipped models offered only to the emergency services and with all non-essential options removed. The models feature X Drive Four-Wheel-Drive and also come with an auxiliary battery system to power all emergency warning and communication equipment as wlel as programmed navigation, providing incident route information and a full radio set-up.

The interior has also been modified to carry lifesaving equipment, with room for just the driver and two passengers.
