Pricing & specification announced for Mercedes-Benz X-Class

With first deliveries due in January 2018 priced from £27,310 +VAT, the X-Class has been developed as part of an ongoing tie-up with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and is based on the underpinnings of the latest-generation Nissan Navara and the forthcoming Renault Alaskan.

Available as a double cab only, it comes as standard with selectable all-wheel drive, low-range gearbox, drive selection mode, double wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

Initial options include the X 220d equipped with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel offering 163bhp married to a six-speed manual transmission, or a 190hp X 250d, which comes with a seven-speed automatic. A 3.0-litre V6 will arrive next year, likely in the summer.

Three trims will be offered – Pure, Progressive and Power – with the latter two expected to take the lion’s share of orders, due to the UK market’s focus on “higher specification and premium level of equipment and options, as well as an automatic transmission” according to a company spokesperson.

The entry-level Pure – which is likely to make up less than 5% of sales – is focused on more everyday needs and is only being marketed with the lower-power engine although the 250d is available as a ‘special order’. Equipment includes air conditioning, reversing camera, active brake assist, lane keeping assist, traffic sign assist, hill start assist, Eco start/stop and ESP.

The Progressive line is priced at £1,200 +VAT above the Pure model and adds 17-inch alloys, multifunction leather steering wheel, automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensor, painted bumpers with a simulated under guard in matt black, aluminium door sills with ‘Mercedes-Benz’ lettering, chrome door handles, load securing rail system, heated exterior mirrors and a radiator grille with iridium silver matt finish.

The top-spec Power trim costs a further £3,500 +VAT and offered in conjunction with the 250d engine only. This model features 18-inch alloys, painted bumpers with simulated under guard in chrome, a rear bumper in chrome with integrated step, fog lights with chrome surround, shoulder line trim strips in chrome, LED high-performance headlights with cleaning system, LED tail lights, electrically folding exterior mirrors and the Keyless Go system, along with part leather upholstery and eight-way electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seats.

All models also feature the Audio 20 CD infotainment system with seven-inch screen and Bluetooth and DAB digital radio. Also standard is Mercedes me Connect standard services, including call automatic emergency response, breakdown and maintenance management, with the Comand Online and Garmin Map Pilot systems available as options.

Seven option packages are on offer while extras also include a differential lock for the rear axle to enhance off-roading capabilities in mud, sand or snow (£495 +VAT) while increased ground clearance by 20mm can be added for £220 +VAT.
