The SKYACTIV-G 1.3 has been engineered for an extremely high compression ratio, giving excelent efficiency, especially under high load at low rpm.

It also features a number of new technologies to avoid the usual problem of knocking on conventional high-compression engines.

The engine will be launched first in the Japanese market in the facelifted Mazda Demio (Mazda2) during the first half of 2011. It will be combined with Mazda's stop-stop system, i-stop, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and will achieve fuel economy of 30km/L under Japan's 10-15 mode test cycle.
