Julian Kirk explores the equipment on the test Tourareg.

The Touareg’s Innovision Cockpit is a huge expanse of configurable screens which links the instrument binnacle to the main dashboard screens

With its understated looks our Touareg never really gets that much attention from the outside, but it’s a different story when you open the door and are confronted by the slab of technology in the dashboard.

Our test car is fitted with the impressive Innovision Cockpit – a huge expanse of configurable screens which links the instrument binnacle to the main dashboard screens. This option combines a 12-inch digital instrument display with a larger 15- inch screen which houses the controls for the infotainment system. I’ve configured mine to have the sat nav map in the instrument binnacle with the telephone, radio and clock on the other screen. It is brilliant – which it should be for its £3,660 cost.

Other exterior options fitted to our car include 20-inch alloy wheels at £1,000 – these are definitely worth it to beef up the car’s stance a little. Metallic silver paint at £850 certainly works better than the standard flat white and black colours, while the rear tinted glass adds a touch more class to the outside, but on a car this expen- sive this should really be standard and not a £290 optional extra.

P11d/BiK: £47,800 (37%) MPG/CO2: 34.9mpg (WLTP/173g/km (NEDC Correlated) Test MPG: 26.7mpg
