The Citroën scored 82% for adult occupant protection, 79% for child occupant, 80% for pedestrian safety but only scored 56% for safety assist, giving an overall four-star mark.

Euro NCAP said it was a creditable result against tougher requirements. 

The X-Trail gained a figure of 86% for adult occupant protection, 83% for child occupant, 75% for pedestrian safety and 75% for safety assist.

Euro NCAP said that in the adult occupant side barrier test, the X-Trail scored maximum points, with good protection of all body areas. Even in the more severe side pole test, protection of all body regions was good, except that of the chest, which was adequate.

It also noted that the X-Trail is rewarded for crash avoidance systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning, included in the rating as from 2014.

The Mercedes V-Class was given a high 93% figure for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant, 67% for pedestrian and 85% for safety assist.

Euro NCAP added that the Advanced reward given to Mercedes-Benz for the Collision Prevention Assist also applies to the V-Class, as Autonomous Braking Systems are not yet included in the assessment of Business and Family Vans.
