Business case for electric vehicles reinforced by new tool

Fleets looking to electrify their vehicles can now use a new tool from Samsara to help inform their business case and provide solid grounds for a shift to electric vehicles.

The fleet electrification report provides a consolidated analysis of the light-duty vehicles in a fleet that are the best candidates to be replaced with EVs

A recent report indicated that UK fleet investment in EVs will increase by 50% in the next two years and global telematics specialist Samsara says this is being reinforced by its own experiences, which have already shown broader adoption of EVs for commercial use with customers.

But while decision-makers understand the environmental and cost-saving benefits of EVs, solid data is essential to crafting an electrification strategy and getting executive buy-in.

This is where the new tool comes in.

The fleet electrification report provides a consolidated analysis of the light-duty vehicles in a fleet that are the best candidates to be replaced with EVs.

It compares the vehicles across your fleet and grades them on suitability characterising them by: okay, good, or excellent candidates for electrification

This is based on six major criteria: vehicle age, average fuel efficiency, average daily range, maximum range, estimated annual fuel savings and estimated annual emissions saved.

Using all of these factors ensures that vehicles with the highest operational costs are pinpointed as well as making sure that vehicles can travel the distance required on a single charge.

The report also provides estimated annual fuel and emission savings to help visualise the efficiency and cost savings fleets can unlock by transitioning the most suitable vehicles to EVs.

Commenting on the new tool, a spokesperson said: “With 46% of fleets looking for data on fleet suitability to speed up adoption of EVs and 40% of fleets seeking data to drive internal leadership buy-in to electrify, it’s clear that insights on EV suitability is top of mind.

“Now, with just a few clicks, you have the data at your fingertips to build the business case for EVs and generate internal confidence to take the leap.

“The report provides transparency into your data, so you can gather the right insights and proof you need to reassure your stakeholders that an electric vehicle can do the job just as efficiently – if not more so – than a traditional vehicle.”

The new electrification report is available on a free trial.
