Anglian Water drives tyre safety message home

Business drivers at Anglian Water are increasingly recognising the benefits of ensuring vehicle tyres are correctly inflated with the help of Michelin.

Around 120 vehicles at Anglian’s Peterborough office were tested for this year’s roadshow.

Since 2011, staff at the utilities company have undergone voluntary tyre inflation tests at various business premises, with the results of this year’s Michelin ‘Fill Up With Air’ tyre safety campaign showing that 63% are driving cars and vans with all four tyres correctly inflated – this compares to 41% last year and 31% six years ago.

Factor in cars where pressures were judged to be within an acceptable threshold (4-7psi under-inflated), and that figure jumps to 83% – compared with 75% in 2016 and 53% in 2011.

As a result, both the company and drivers are set to see cost savings, including on tyre replacements and fuel costs.

Ian Ruby, key account manager at Michelin, said: “The beauty of our ongoing Fill Up With Air project is that it costs companies nothing to be involved, but is paying dividends in the long run.”For more of the latest industry news, click here.
