Volvo continues saloon and estate sales to emergency services fleets

Volvo Car UK is continuing sales of saloon and estate models to emergency services customers despite stopping deals with wider fleets.

Vehicles still available to blue and amber light fleets include the V60 and V90, together with their Cross Country variants, and the S90. These will solely be available as authority specification models, which feature high-performance engines alongside lower interior specification, with uprated payload capacity and upgraded brakes. Such vehicles are also not subject to the 112mph speed limiter found in all Volvo’s other cars.

Authority vehicles are designed and built specifically for the use of such key customers, sold via the Volvo Car UK Special Vehicles department and can be converted for blue or amber light use.

Volvo announced earlier this week that it’s axing all saloons and estates from its UK line-up as it puts focus on high-demand models.

Drivers can no longer order new V60, S60 or V90 models through Volvo’s website, although pre-configured dealer stock versions do remain available online.

The carmaker had already culled the V60 Cross Country estate, V90 Cross Country estate, S90 saloon and XC40 Recharge PHEV crossover in June 2023 under plans to “consolidate” its line-up.

A spokesperson this week said that less than 10% of Volvo’s UK sales are represented by saloon/estate models – and the vast majority of its customers opt for an SUV.

However, Volvo has said that its V90 continues to be very popular with UK police forces for traffic and roads policing.

Volvo has also published its latest figures, showing global sales of 54,165 cars in July, up 21% compared with the same month last year. This was the 11th consecutive month of growth year over year. The XC60 was the top-selling model last month, with sales of 18,259 cars (2022: 16,261 units), followed by the XC40 with total sales at 14,594 cars (2022: 10,640 units) and the XC90 at 8,640 cars (2022: 7,764 units).
