ViaVan expands ridesharing service in London

Mercedes-Benz Vans and US technology start-up Via have expanded their on-demand ridesharing ViaVan joint venture further across London – including the scheme’s first UK airport launch.

The ViaVan service uses algorithms to enable multiple riders to share a single vehicle. Passengers are directed to a nearby corner for pickup and dropoff

The scheme launched in London in April this year, providing a fleet of Mercedes-Benz vehicles to offer shared rides that can be booked via an app for travel in zones 1 and 2. This has now been expanded to cover zones 1-5 and includes service to London City Airport.

It follows the launch of the scheme in Milton Keynes last month and its successful debuts in Amsterdam and Berlin earlier this year.

“ViaVan is redefining mobility across London, providing residents with an innovative transportation solution that provides the same ease and accessibility as private car ownership and taxi trips, but with the affordability and congestion-reducing benefits of mass transit,” said Chris Snyder, CEO of ViaVan. “The tremendous popularity of the service proves that Londoners are eager for more environmentally-focused transit options that can provide a viable alternative to single occupancy vehicle trips, and we look forward to bringing our service to even more of the city.”
