The company has already been championing a call to Government urging the Chancellor to lower fuel tax for commercial drivers and is now backing FairFuelUK in its goal to reach 500,000 signatures. The petition is calling on the Government to abolish April's planned fuel duty increase and introduce a fuel price stabiliser.

Jakes de Kock, The Fuelcard Company's marketing director, is urging everyone in the industry to work together to make a stand against rising fuel prices.

'The fleet industry simply can't sustain this level of taxation and many smaller fleet companies have already been forced out of business. It is imperative that we join forces to make our voice heard. If the fuel duty rise goes ahead in April it will not just be the transport industry that suffers but every single household in the UK which will see the price of everyday goods rocket and fresh food become scarce. We need to take action now before it's too late.'

Peter Carroll, who is leading the FairFuelUK Campaign, said he was delighted to have The Fuelcard Company's backing.

'The campaign is really gathering momentum, with the support of two of the leading associations in the industry coming on board and now The Fuelcard Company adding their support. It's vital that everyone who is concerned about surging fuel prices backs us at www.fairfueluk.com The Government will only listen if we have enormous business and public support.'

De Kock added: 'When is the Government going to realise that fuel is not a luxury but a daily necessity for fleet businesses which provide a vital logistical service to businesses and organisations across the country? The current price of fuel is scandalous and we will not stop fighting until the Government sees sense.'
