The special packs consist of an illuminated warning triangle, ice scraper, torch, first aid kit and vest together with a Northgate Vehicle Hire branded carrying case.

Colin Gilstin, group safety and environment manager, said: 'Providing a safe workplace for our employees is of paramount importance and that includes when they are collecting and delivering vehicles.

'For our collection and delivery drivers the vehicle is very much their workplace so it is essential that we provide them with the tools to ensure they are safe as possible on the roads.

'All of our collection and delivery drivers are expected to carry the packs with them at all times when driving at work.'

Last year, Northgate Vehicle Hire had its reputation for promoting health and safety to employees and customers recognised with a prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' (RoSPA) Gold Award for the second consecutive year.

Additionally, the company remains the only rental firm that has joined the "Driving for Better Business" campaign, which is delivered by RoadSafe and promotes occupational road risk management. The company is also a leading supporter of road safety charity Brake.

Mr Gilstin added: 'The company takes its employee duty of care responsibilities very seriously with staff also attending a range of health and safety courses to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for their roles.'
