New Kia Sportage: UK prices and specs revealed
Kia has announced pricing for its all-new Sportage, which opens for orders later this month, priced from £26,745.
Now available in an inaugural Europe-only model, the fifth-generation Sportage also gains its first-ever hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, alongside petrol and diesel engines available with and without mild hybrid tech. In total eight powertrains are available – the widest-ever range for the Sportage.
The line-up includes a brand-new hybrid featuring a 1.6-litre turbo direct-injection petrol engine and developing 229hp. This will be joined by a 216hp plug-in hybrid towards the end of Q1 2022 – another first for the Sportage. Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The petrol and diesel engines are all 1.6-litre and include a 150hp petrol and a 136hp diesel both with mild hybrid tech and non-electrified 150hp petrol and 115hp diesels, offered with a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission.
All-wheel drive is available on selected trims and engines, including the hybrid, and standard with the plug-in hybrid.
Developed using a new architecture, the latest Sportage also introduces a radically reinvented exterior and interior design, along with substantially increased boot space, head- and leg-room compared to the previous-generation car.
Trim structure follows Kia’s usual line-up with six grades on offer – including ‘2’, 3’ and ‘4’ variants as well as ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’ trims.
The line-up begins with the ‘2’ model, available with the non-electrified 150hp petrol and 115hp diesel, both with two-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes LED headlamps and daytime running lights, eight-inch touchscreen with DAB radio and MP3 compatibility, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control with speed limiter, 17-inch alloys and front and rear parking sensors with reversing camera system.
Advanced driver assistance features bring forward collision-avoidance assist with city, pedestrian, cyclist and junction covering, lane following assist and lane keep assist and intelligent speed limit assist.
The ‘GT-Line’ sits above it and adds in three further powertrain choices: the 150hp 48V petrol and 136hp diesel, both with mild hybrid tech and seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, and the hybrid with six-speed auto – the latter priced from £33,245. All come exclusively with two-wheel drive but ‘GT-Line’ PHEV models will add all-wheel drive capability when launched in late Q1 2022, priced from £38,395.
As well as adding in ‘GT-Line’ styling, gloss back details and sporty interior flourishes, this grade also gets 19-inch alloys for petrol and diesels, 12.3-inch display with navigation system and Kia Connect, suede leather upholstery, smart entry system with engine start/stop button.
Grade ‘3’ shares the same powertrain range as the ‘GT-Line’ line-up but is based on the ‘2’ spec. Additional equipment in addition to grade ‘2’ includes 18-inch alloys, 12.3-inch display with navigation system and Kia Connect, 12.3-inch colour driver display, black cloth and faux leather upholstery, heated front and rear outer seats and steering wheel, smart entry system with engine start/stop button, LED front fog lamps and front power-adjustable seats.
It also adds in smart cruise control with stop & go functionality and highway driving assist on DCT versions.
The line-up for the ‘4’ specification includes 48V mild hybrid tech and all-wheel drive on all petrol and diesel options, along with the 2WD hybrid and AWD PHEV. Extra features introduce a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon premium sound system, wireless mobile phone charger, dual LED adaptive headlights and LED tail-lights, plus 360-degree Around View Monitor.
Additional ADAS systems include blind-spot view monitor, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, parking collision-avoidance assist and remote smart parking assist on hybrid and PHEV versions.
The flagship ‘GT-Line S’ edition is offered with the 150hp 48V petrol engine with 7DCT and all-wheel-drive as standard, along with 2WD and AWD versions of the hybrid plus the top-rung PHEV ‘GT-Line S’ model with all-wheel drive.
Equipment is based on the ‘4’ grade and adds in ‘GT-Line’ styling, 19-inch alloy wheels (18-inch alloy wheels on the hybrid), artificial leather and suede upholstery, smart power tailgate, driver memory seats, a 10-way driver’s and 8-way front passenger’s power-adjustable seat and an optional two-tone black roof.
Order books for the new Kia Sportage open 15 December and UK customer deliveries start during Q1 2022.
