Latest TomTom system provides real-time driver feedback

Active Driver Feedback, the first of two new products launched by TomTom Business Solutions, enables fleets to see drivers' fuel efficiency, or be warned of excessive steering or braking, at a glance of their PRO navigation device.

Active Driver Feedback displays actual and average journey fuel consumption in the TomTom PRO’s status bar. A green fuel icon notifies them if they are achieving below average fuel consumption while a red icon alerts them to uneconomical, above average, consumption.

The feature also displays an idling alert, indicating how much fuel the driver may have wasted, and icons warning of excessive steering or braking. An EcoStatistics menu option enables the driver to see a snapshot view of his performance over a selected period (a specific journey, day or an overall total).

TomTom has also launched its WEBFLEET OptiDrive technology, aimed at helping managers establish a safer, greener driving policy by providing them with clear, easy-to-interpret, visual graphs and reports for individual drivers or an entire fleet.

The OptiDrive indicator allows managers to compare the driving style, efficiency and safety of drivers, monitor trends and developments, and set benchmarks for an entire fleet.

Giles Margerison, director, UK and Ireland, added: 'The difference fleet tracking and navigation systems make in business is well documented but sometimes, fleet managers can feel overloaded by the sheer volume of information the technology can give them.

'OptiDrive cuts through the information clutter by giving employers an at-a-glance overview of each driver’s performance.'
