Revealed by news agency Headlineauto, Neumann told the Zeit conference future summit that the concept reveals a new philosophy for the ‘in-car integration of daily life’ combining work and private lives.

Mark Adams, vice president design, GM Europe, as ‘a statement of intent for where we are taking Opel’.

Adams said that the Monza, which went from ‘killer sketch’ to full model in a year, was referred to as a sports brake, adding that it was a very difficult car to categorise.

The GM Europe design philosophy he set out in 2009 was ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision. That design philosophy has to be constant; what's different is how you interpret it over time.’

While the exterior of the car was inspired by a greyhound, the instrument panel was inspired by a breaking wave. ‘It means we are not constrained by an 8-inch or 10-inch screen – the whole instrument panel is a screen,’ said Adams.

The display marks the first use of 3D LED projection technology "which can be customised in any way, shape or form."

The gullwing doors were the most difficult part of the concept to build, said Adams.
