The new model, which is once more available in both hatchback and fastback (saloon) bodystyles, will be offered in five trim levels in the UK – SE, SE Nav, SE-L, SE-L Nav and Sport Nav – and with a choice of three naturally-aspirated petrol powerplants and one turbocharged diesel – all fitted with i-stop, Mazda’s idle-stop system, as standard.

The line-up includes a brand-new 99bhp SKYACTIV-G 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering up to 55.4mpg (combined cycle), with CO2 emissions from 119g/km (hatchback).

There will also be a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre available in standard (118bhp) and high power (163bhp) versions. Figures for the standard power are 55.4mpg and 119g/km (manual) and 50.4mpg and 128g/km (automatic), while the high-power version delivers 48.7mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 135g/km.

The diesel choice takes the form of a 148bhp SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre unit, which delivers 280lb.ft of torque at 1,800rpm, with fuel economy up to 72.4mpg and CO2 emissions from 104g/km.

Prices for the range will start at £16,695 OTR for the 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol 99bhp SE hatchback, rising to £23,345 for the diesel 2.2-litre 148bhp Sport Nav Auto hatchback.

SE models offer kit including: 16-inch alloy wheels, air con, power-folding heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, trip computer, radio/CD with six speaker audio system, 7-inch TFT colour touch screen, USB/iPod connectivity and Bluetooth hands-free system.

SE-L trim adds Bi-Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and rear lights, dual-zone climate control air conditioning, front fog lamps, rain and dusk sensing automatic wipers and lights, heated front seats and rear parking sensors.

Meanwhile the range-topping Sport Nav models offer 18-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), Bose surround-sound system with 9 speakers, head-up display, integrated navigation, front parking sensors (as well as rear) and optional leather seats and cabin trim in black or light stone.

Included on all model as standard will be Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) which helps to reduce or prevent low-speed collisions by automatically applying the brakes if the driver fails to act, Hill Hold Assist (HHA) and new internet connectivity with “Aha” and “Stitcher” app integration.
