So says Chevin Fleet Solutions, which is warning that despite the extension to Article 50 until 31 October, new documents are now required for travel irrespective of wider EU Exit negotiations.

These are:

  • The need for hauliers and commercial drivers to register certain commercial trailers to drive internationally.
  • Individuals planning to drive in certain countries outside the EU may require an International Driving Permit.

The firm also warned that fleets not using management software should look at the benefits, including ensuring that drivers have the right paperwork in place before travelling into Europe. Benefits of the leading software solutions include the ability to manage, track and trace paperwork, automate processes, reduce administration and support compliance to help prevent any costly cross border hold-ups.

Ashley Sowerby, managing director, Chevin, said: “There are fleets that continue to use dated systems or even spreadsheets to manage important paperwork which could leave them at risk when travelling in Europe.

“Advanced system such as FleetWave have the tools in place to handle these requirements. We urge fleet managers to use the next six months to review their current systems and practices to make the necessary changes in advance of the Brexit outcome.”
