EDF and Pod Point team up for UK’s ‘cheapest’ EV energy tariff

A new EV energy tariff said to be the cheapest in the UK has launched from EDF and Pod Point.

The tariff is said to offer the cheapest overnight rate combined with a competitive daytime rate, to provide customers with the best overall EV tariff based on typical usage

Available from 24 October 2023 for Pod Point customers who have ordered the Solo 3 home charger, the Pod Point EV Exclusive tariff offers an overnight charging rate of 7.4p per kWh between 00:00 and 05:00 am, fixed for one year. This is combined with a daytime rate said to be competitive and providing customers “with the best overall EV tariff based on typical usage”. Users also get zero-carbon renewable electricity provided by EDF.

Dr Andy Palmer, CEO of Pod Point, said: “We know consumers are most likely to charge their cars overnight at home, making sure that – just like the mobile phone on their bedside table – it is ready to go when they need it, whether that’s for the school run or the morning commute.

“This tariff will make home EV charging more affordable for thousands of households across the country, whilst still providing a competitive peak rate to deliver the overall cheapest EV tariff.”

To maximise the benefits from this tariff, customers will need to pair their Pod Point home charger with the Pod Point App. By doing so, home owners will be able to use the Charge Scheduling feature to schedule charging to take place overnight when the cheaper rate kicks in. Customers will also need to have a smart meter installed.
