eBay closes deal with Cox Automotive to acquire Motors.co.uk

eBay has completed its acquisition of Motors.co.uk, following approval from the Competition and Markets Authority earlier this week.

The Motors.co.uk team has joined Gumtree UK, and, together with eBay Motors UK, will offer more than 620,000 car listings

Announced last autumn, the deal – made for an undisclosed amount – sees the Motors.co.uk team join Gumtree UK, which operates as an eBay Classifieds business.

eBay is positioning Motors.co.uk, Gumtree UK and eBay Motors UK — which together offer more than 620,000 car listings — “as a leading alternative to the current UK motors market leader”.

A company spokesperson said: “This will enable car dealers in the UK to easily reach customers and give buyers access to more choice. In addition, the combination provides opportunities for cross-platform synergies with the eBay UK marketplace and an improved transaction experience for consumers.”

Cox Automotive has previously said the sale enables it to “focus on building upon our strengths in the wholesale market and in supporting dealers, OEMs, fleet and leasing customers with a ‘connected retail’ proposition”.
