DriveTech staff step up to support Covid-19 response

Employees at DriveTech are helping to support the Covid-19 response through a range of volunteering roles during lockdown.

DriveTech’s regional fleet training manager Steve Appleby – and his wife Louise – are volunteering for a local project that is working on full face protection masks for the NHS

This includes regional fleet training manager Steve Appleby and his wife Louise, who’s a DriveTech trainer. Both are volunteering for a project called ‘Labmask’, developed by a business local to their village, Labman, which aims to design and manufacture full face protection masks at no cost to the NHS and other organisations that have a requirement for them. The Applebys did their first shift on the production line on Friday 17 April – they even met their daily target of 6,000 masks per day with about 50 mins left on the shift.

Meanwhile marketing manager Leanne Hayes has joined the NHS Volunteer Responder scheme as a check-in and chat volunteer, providing telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness.

Dave Dando-Moore, MI developer, has also found a way to support his elderly father in South Wales, through the help of local support group. A volunteer is now visiting his father’s house every few days to check on him and buy him his essential groceries – which includes Jaffa Cakes.

Workers have shared their lockdown stories thanks to DriveTech’s new Drop-In Clinic – dedicated to help all staff through remote working conditions during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The clinic includes a chat forum, contact details for their mental health first aider and a live weekly broadcast headed up by their very own ‘Dr Col’, otherwise known as Colin Paterson, head of marketing.

The clinic provides firm evidence of how DriveTech is putting its new safety-focused mission statement to good effect as part of its work in the pandemic response.

While the driver training and road risk management specialist has always been focused on road and people safety, it adopted new positioning earlier this year to show a more inclusive view of its work to add value across the people safety arena – not necessarily just for drivers.

The new ‘DriveTech – from the AA. Driven to keep people safe’ mission statement also celebrates a strong and collaborative association with the AA plc.

DriveTech has also been providing extensive support to its customer and the fleet/risk management sector. This includes developing online versions of its Driver CPC and speed awareness courses and it’s providing a free online essential driver training course.
