BMW 4 Series Coupe revealed

The car marks the start of a new model line for BMW which, as Audi has done with the A5, will separate the sportier cars on the 3 Series platform into a new range of 4 Series cars.

It’s likely that this will later include a convertible version of the coupe and a production model based on the X4 concept car shown at the Shanghai Motor Show recently, though a rival for the A5 Sportback is also rumoured.

At launch, the 4 Series will be available with four and six-cylinder engines ranging from the familiar 420d with 184bhp to the 306bhp 435i. CO2 emissions of 124g/km for the 420d, with combined fuel consumption of 60.1mpg depending on the model, are almost identical to the outgoing 320d Coupe.

All benefit from selectable ECO PRO driving modes, the lowest centre of gravity of any production BMW and a 24mm wider front and rear track compared to the 3 Series saloon.

Shortly after the launch, the range will grow to include xDrive four-wheel drive versions of the 420i and the 435d Coupe, which will only be available with this system.

Prices for the 4 Series Coupe will be announced closer to the launch.
