Allstar has boosted its EV charging network under a new tie-up with Applegreen Electric.

The partnership will initially add 86 ultra-rapid charge points across 14 motorway sites, expanding to more than 500 charge points across the Welcome Break and Applegreen UK networks over the next year

The collaboration will provide Allstar customers with greater access to ultra-rapid charge points, further enhancing convenience and amenities for motorway drivers.

The partnership will initially add 86 ultra-rapid charge points across 14 motorway sites, expanding to more than 500 charge points across the Welcome Break and Applegreen UK networks over the next year. These will be located across major strategic road network arteries in the UK, from London to Glasgow, Cardiff to Sheffield and beyond.

The tie-up means the Allstar network now exceeds 14,000 charge points located at over 4,000 sites across the UK, with 91% of the total chargers being fast, rapid and ultra-rapid and 85% of UK motorway service areas covered. Partners also include Gridserve and InstaVolt.

While EV take-up is rising rapidly, there are still many UK businesses that either haven’t started electrification or are still in the early stages of adoption, leaving them managing mixed fossil fuel and electric-powered fleets.

To answer this need, Allstar recently launched its Chargepass solution, aimed at accelerating the UK’s transition to electric vehicles by simplifying payment for EV charging, both at home and on the road.

The firm says it’s the only solution in the UK that allows customers to charge at home and on-the-road, capturing charging sessions alongside fuel transactions in a single, paperless HMRC-compliant invoice, giving both mixed and EV-only fleets total flexibility.

Ashley Tate, MD, Allstar Chargepass UK

Ashley Tate, MD, Allstar Chargepass UK, commented: “Our commitment at Allstar is to provide market-leading payment solutions for UK businesses with fleets. By partnering with Applegreen Electric, we’re bringing more convenience to our customers that use the motorway network, allowing them to recharge and have access to amenities offered by popular brands at the Welcome Break Services.”

Applegreen Electric is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Applegreen Group and is focused exclusively on developing EV charging infrastructure. It has a range of partners and customers across the US, the UK and Ireland, and delivers over one million fast charging sessions each year.

Jack O’Brien, country manager UK at Applegreen Electric, commented: “Allstar values align perfectly with our own in providing access to world-class rapid EV charging to drivers. Allstar’s intuitive payments options will be a valuable asset to our business customers. Our partnership will help to remove one of the key barriers to EV adoption for businesses of all sizes by making it easier for drivers to find and use reliable charging points, supporting the switch to electric and empowering EV drivers to enjoy their journey.”
