Winners of 2011 security awards revealed
This year's awards, which are supported by UK insurers, the UK government through the Home Office and the Department for Transport, saw awards presented for 21 separate categories for cars and vans, including the title of overall manufacturer, which was won by Volkswagen UK for the second year running, and best overall van manufacturer, which went to Vauxhall for the first time.
This year’s ceremony also introduced a new "International Vehicle Security Award", which went to Volvo for its 100% compliance to the BIVSA criteria for all its models sold in both the Swedish and UK markets.
Mike Briggs, vehicle security manager at Thatcham, said: 'The standard of security across the ranges of all the major vehicle manufacturers continues to impress. Picking a winner in each of our categories has become increasingly difficult as security across the board improves year on year. The motoring public should take great confidence from the efforts of manufacturers who are making a tremendous contribution to the fight against vehicle crime, which Thatcham on behalf of motor insurers and alongside police and government have been engaged in since 1992.'
