Volkswagen concept hints at next Touareg

The luxury concept car, which in production form could share its platform with the latest Audi Q7, is said to offer a lounge-like interior with a combined infotainment and instrument display under a large sheet of transparent glass.

Power comes from a petrol plug-in hybrid drive, produces 375bhp and offers a fully-electric range of around 31 miles. In turn, this returns over 94.2mpg on the European economy cycle, equating to less than 70g/km CO2, while accelerating to 62mph in around six seconds.

European-specification cars could offer a different drivetrain, based on the 3.0-litre TDI engine, but Volkswagen’s GTE-branded plug-in hybrids have so far used petrol engines. More details will be revealed once the car breaks cover next week.
