2011 MPG Marathon to take place this October in Gloucestershire

The event, now in its ninth year, will be hosted from the Cotswold Water Park Four Pillars Hotel, South Cerney, near Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

The 2011 MPG Marathon will consist of two loops both starting and finishing at the Four Pillars Hotel. The overall distance will be in the region of 350 miles, with one loop taking in the area to the south-west of Cirencester and the second the area to the south-east.

Last year's event once again showed how skilful eco-driving can increase safety, dramatically reduce fuel costs and lower CO2 emissions. The title for best outright fuel consumptionwas claimed by the Fortwo CDI Coupe Plus driven by Mick Linford with co-driver Ella Flynn, which registered an overall figure of 94.66mpg.

Meanwhile the Volkswagen Golf GTI DSG, driven by David Madgwick and Ashleigh White, took the award for best percentage improvement, with the car achieving 55.63mpg; a staggering 45.62% improvement over the manufacturer's 38.2 combined mpg figure.
