Electric vehicle drivers are being urged to take advantage of the current grant towards home charge point installs before it closes.

From 1 April 2022, the current Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) will no longer be open to homeowners (including people with mortgages) who live in single-unit properties such as bungalows and detached, semi-detached or terraced housing.

Instead, as announced last year, the scheme, which offers up to £350 off the cost of buying and installing a home charging point for an EV, will reform to only cover those who live in rented/leasehold premises – both owners and tenants – accelerating charge point provision in apartment blocks and rental accommodation.

Rightcharge – the all-in-one charge point and EV-friendly energy tariff comparison website – is now urging EV drivers to request a charge point install via its site (which chooses the most suited installer from 50+) by the end of this month. This will allow the time to get the right installer and grant by 31 March.

The business reported in January that it had already seen a 100% rise in in the number of requests for charge point installs compared to December 2021; which was its most popular month to date.

Founder Charlie Cook said: “We’ve seen a 100% rise in in the number of requests for charge point installs between December and January which indicates that Brits are moving fast to take advantage of the OZEV grant before it’s too late.

“Major charge point providers removed the opportunity to access the grant for direct enquiries in late 2022.
