Toyota confirms emissions reduction for Auris Hybrid

The news, first revealed by Fleet World during the Geneva Motor Show, means that the hatchback now offers the lowest of any car in the family hatchback class.

The emissions reduction has been achieved by changes to the vehicle tuning as well as the addition of aerodynamic measures such as new aero-stabilising fins in the rear glazing.

The modifications were first previewed on the 85g/km Auris Hybrid Touring Sports, which made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

The announcement comes as Toyota reports strong demand for the new Auris model, with sales up 27% in the first quarter of 2013. The full hybrid variant is proving particularly popular, with a sales increase of 69% year-on-year. In the UK, sales of Auris have been even better, increasing by 31% to March 2013.

Auris Hybrid will be available from June with emissions of 84g/km on Icon models only. The emissions of Excel models will remain unchanged at 91g/km.
