TomTom Traffic updated with roadworks and traffic management data from Elgin
TomTom has teamed up with Elgin, the creator of roadworks.org, to deliver more accurate and validated real-time traffic information to fleet managers and traffic management professionals.
The TomTom and Elgin partnership will result in better visibility of local roadworks delays and disruptions in the UK
Elgin provides a roadworks and traffic management communications hub, which also serves as the national roadworks database for England & Wales. This data is now being incorporated into TomTom Traffic in the UK to enable fleets and drivers to manage routing more effectively.
The move will also enable Highway Authorities and utility companies to monitor and respond to the impact of roadworks on road users in real-time.
Douglas Gilmour, sales manager for TomTom Licensing, said: “This innovation results in better visibility of local roadworks delays and disruptions in the UK. This will benefit faleets and all users of TomTom Traffic content including transport authorities, fleet solution providers and 3rd party scheduling and transportation management partners.
“By harnessing machine learning to improve the data’s quality, TomTom’s Traffic Fusion Engine creates a positive feedback loop and can discern whether, for example, scheduled roadworks reported to Elgin are causing traffic disruption now and whether these are occurring where they were planned to.”
