Tarmac boosts fleet fuel economy 30% with Geotab and Motormax integration
Tarmac has recorded major gains in fleet safety, sustainability and operational efficiency in collaboration with Geotab and Motormax.
The integrated technology has yielded major gains in fleet safety, sustainability and efficiency for Tarmac
The construction materials giant has rolled out an integrated solution across its 2,000-vehicle UK fleet, combining Geotab’s telematics platform with Motormax’s multi-camera recording system.
The integration has delivered a 30% improvement in fuel economy and a 25% reduction in speeding violations within the first three months of implementation, cutting costs and supporting safer driving and greater compliance.
And the successful outcome has led to Geotab and Motormax being named preferred suppliers for Tarmac’s parent company CRH Group, with a future focus on supporting the company’s EV100 pledge of transitioning to an all-electric fleet by 2030.
The partnership provides unified access to driver safety scores, maintenance scheduling and real-time vehicle data.
The system’s real-time monitoring capabilities have enhanced driver safety by providing immediate feedback on driver behaviours. Additionally, risk benchmarking offers comprehensive evaluations of driver performance, enabling targeted coaching and fostering a culture of safety across the fleet.
Lee Green, head of category management and SRM at Tarmac, said: “Given the fragmented geography that Tarmac operates across, often in remote locations, finding a partner that could cope with this and invest the time, effort and flexibility into a successful implementation was essential. Both Geotab and Motormax have worked hard with the Tarmac teams, showing resilience in making the rollout a success.”
The new fleet management platform manages over 2,000 vehicles, including trucks, vans, pickups and plant equipment, across 13 UK regions.
Through the MyGeotab platform, fleet managers now have a single point of access to integrated camera footage, driver safety scorecards, preventative maintenance scheduling, and real-time vehicle data as well as deriving key insights from plant assets across the estate.
By deploying detailed idling reporting, Tarmac now has total visibility of the idling rate and time of each vehicle in both its static and mobile fleet operations. This resulted in a reduction in vehicle and plant equipment idling of over 30% within just three months. The Geotab platform’s driver ID system has improved accountability and compliance, while integrated video telematics from Motormax enables targeted driver training and coaching.
Aaron Jarvis, associate vice president at Geotab, added: “We’re proud to support Tarmac on its journey toward a more efficient, safer and sustainable fleet – and we are truly excited to extend that impact further across the CRH Group.”
