A new EV concept model that will form the basis of Suzuki’s first fully electric car has made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, India.

Dubbed the eVX, the crossover concept previews the brand’s first global strategic EV, which is due to launch by 2025.

The battery electric vehicle is said to combine Suzuki’s “strong 4×4 DNA with the advanced features of the latest BEVs”.

It also seeks to “carry forward the brand’s 4×4 legacy into the new electric era to deliver a true Suzuki SUV driving experience”.

Few technical details have been revealed but the carmaker said the 60kWh battery would generate a 550km (342-mile) range on the MIDC modified Indian driving cycle.

Speaking at the Auto Expo press briefing, president Toshihiro Suzuki said: “I am delighted to unveil the eVX, our first global strategic EV. At the Suzuki Group, addressing global warming is a priority.

“We are promoting a range of global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Suzuki will continue providing valuable products to our customers around the world by optimising them for the way different people live and drive.”

Suzuki also told reporters that it’s learning EV lessons from strategic partner Toyota – which has a 4.89% stake in Suzuki and launched its own inaugural bZ4X electric car in 2022. Toyota Motor Corporation also announced last year that it will launch 30 battery electric models by 2030.
