Renault Scenic E-Tech prices and specs revealed as orders open
Renault’s Scenic E-Tech electric crossover is now on sale in the UK, priced from £40,995 and with up to 379 miles of range.
The Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4 rival revives the Scenic name, previously used for the brand’s MPV range first launched nearly 30 years ago and now reinvented as a fully electric family car.
It’s offered with a single fully electric powertrain that features a 220hp motor and an 87kWh battery. It’s able to charge from 3kW to 22kW AC, giving a 0-100% charge in 13 hours from a 7.4kW wallbox. The Scenic E-Tech also has a max 150kW DC charging speed, enabling a 10-80% charge-up in 37 minutes. A heat pump comes as standard, helping to preserve range.
It’s built on the group’s CMF-EV platform, shared with the Megane E-Tech Electric and Nissan Ariya and said to deliver an exceptionally spacious cabin, giving rear passenger space in line with top C-segment family cars while being lighter and more compact.
Boot space stands at 545 litres, rising to 1,670 with the rear seats down, while a concealed hatch allows long items to be carried without folding down the rear seat. The Scenic E-Tech also gets 38.7 litres of onboard storage.
Design features include a fully flat floor, 19- or 20-inch wheels, door handles that retract flush with the body, and a Solarbay opacifying panoramic roof. Said to be a first for a mass-market carmaker, it’s able to be either fully or partially opacified in segments. The driver and passengers can choose any of four roof settings: full light, full opaque, light at the front but opaque at the back, and the reverse. It’s controlled via an overhead button or by voice control using Google Assistant to entertain passengers.
Further wow factors include vehicle sounds developed by electronica pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre to warn pedestrians that the car is approaching at slow speeds and the Welcome sound sequence, which plays when you sit in the car.
Drivers can also use four Multi-Sense modes – Comfort, Sport, Eco and Perso – to tailor indoor lights and screen colour in line with driving styles.
Onboard technologies include an OpenR Link multimedia system with more than 50 apps, powered by Google services and accessed through a 12.3-inch driver information display on the dashboard and a 12-inch vertical central screen.
The Scenic E-Tech also comes with up to 30 advanced driver assistance and safety systems (ADAS), including a new tool called Safety Coach that assesses driving behaviour and habits to provide tailored advice on driving style and ADAS use. The new motorway and traffic assistant Active Driver Assist combines adaptive cruise control, Stop & Go and lane centring to adapt to the road. The smart cruise control system – included in Safety Coach – can automatically adjust the vehicle speed to account for distance between other cars.
Three models are on offer: Techno, Esprit Alpine and Iconic.
Techno trim includes 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, front and rear full LED lights, electric-folding door mirrors and logo puddle lights, automatic air con, rear-view camera, front and rear park assist, heated front seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters for regenerative braking, automatic wipers and electric boot opening. Technologies include the OpenR multimedia system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and a wireless smartphone charger, plus over-the-air updates.
Advanced driver assistance systems include intelligent adaptive cruise control, traffic and speed sign recognition, driver attention alert, distance warning alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane centring, active emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection and blind spot warning.
The Esprit Alpine trim introduces 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, bespoke heated sports seats with blue stitching, exterior badging plus satin grey detailing, fabric dashboard, Esprit Alpine heated steering wheel, blue carpet, blue detailing in storage compartments, and blue door panel inserts.
The iconic adds in 20-inch ‘Oracle’ diamond-cut alloy wheels, electric driver’s seat with massage function, Harman Kardon sound system, soft fabric dashboard with real wood inserts, light fabric seats made from recycled materials, the Solarbay opacifying panoramic sunroof, hands-free parking, 360-degree camera and a smart rear-view mirror.
The Scenic E-Tech starts customer deliveries from May 2024.
