Renault Captur revamped with bold new looks and built-in Google tech

Renault has treated its Captur small SUV to a major mid-life revamp, adding in bold new looks and latest technologies.

The updated Renault Captur is available in the autumn

Renault says its Ford Puma and Nissan Juke rival is a “car for living”. Launched a decade ago and currently in its second generation, it’s sold over two million units in 90 countries around the world.

Changes for 2024 include the arrival of the brand’s latest design language with a striking front-end using the Nouvel’R one-piece logo built into the multi-faceted grille, and a higher, more horizontal bonnet, while carrying over the two-tone colour scheme.

The cabin gains Renault’s latest OpenR Link multimedia system with a new 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen. It’s said to be as intuitive to use as a smartphone. As well as being fully customisable, the interface is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with wireless smartphone connectivity as standard. In-built Google services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and some 50 Google Play apps are available.

The cabin also comes with USB-C sockets as standard across the range and new upholsteries made from recycled fabrics, while retaining rear bench seat that slides by up to 16cm. Some 24.7 litres of in-cabin storage are available, matched by boot volume of up to 536 litres, expanding up to 1,334 litres with the rear seats folded.

Three trim levels will be on offer – Evolution, Techno and Esprit Alpine, which makes its first appearance on the Captur and comes with special wheels and all-new 19-inch tyres.

Powertrain options are carried over and include the 90hp 1.0-litre TCe petrol and the E-Tech full hybrid 145.

The hybrid combines a 94hp 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol with a 49hp electric motor, 18kW starter generator and a 1.2kWh battery. It cuts CO2 emissions to 105g/km compared with the previous generation.

The updated Captur also gets revised suspension and recalibrated power steering, and comes with up 18 new-generation advanced driver assistance features, which can now be customised by drivers at the touch of a button.

The facelifted Renault Captur will be available from Q3 2024. Prices are yet to be announced.
