The vehicle recycling specialist says it’s already saved 40 police forces £1.5m over the past 18 months, through its My Green Fleet vehicle recycled parts service, which removes non-safety parts from damaged and written-off police vehicles and sells them back to the donor fleets as and when required.

The firm adds that if the scheme were entered into fully by the ambulance, fire and rescue services and the NHS and local councils, savings could easily reach tens of millions of pounds a year.

Started in 2006, My Green Fleet is intended to keep down repair costs and downtime as well as ensuring badly damaged vehicles are responsibly, securely and environmentally disposed of. The initiative provides police fleets with a summary of how much each replacement part has saved them and promises always to deliver the actual part ordered and in the condition described.

The company says it received overwhelmingly positive feedback from a number of high-profile Conservative figures at the Party’s national conference.

Home Secretary Teresa May, Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling and Minster for State and Policing Damian Green, all attended the company’s trade stand and spoke at length with MD Jason Cross, who added: ‘They seemed very interested in the potential savings to be made by supplying quality-conscious public sector customers with non-safety, warranted recycled vehicle parts.’

He added: ‘It’s a win-win solution for public sector fleets and taxpayers alike.’

FAB Recycling Ltd has also just launched the first online auction site for bulk recycled vehicle parts to the auto trade via an initiative called FAB Bundle, while also supplying high-quality vehicle parts to the general public and motor industry through a company called FAB Direct.
