Polestar 3 electric performance SUV to deliver 373-mile range

Polestar has teased its upcoming electric performance SUV ahead of its official debut in October.

The Polestar 3 is the first of three new Polestar models arriving in the next three years

The third vehicle to launch from the carmaker, the Polestar 3 marks its first foray into the lucrative SUV sector and will start production in early 2023 in the US and China.

It will initially launch with a dual-motor drivetrain and a large battery, with a targeted WLTP range target of over 373 miles (600km).

Later versions will offer “autonomous highway piloting powered by the best-in-class LiDAR sensor from Luminar and centralized NVIDIA computing power”.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, said: “Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character. With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”

He added: “This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”

It’s the first of three new Polestar models arriving in the next three years, helping the brand to increase its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023 and including the flagship Polestar 5 electric saloon leaked in images this week. The trio will support Polestar’s plans to grow ten-fold from global sales of approximately 29,000 in 2021 to approximately 290,000 by the end of 2025.
