Peugeot 3008 and 5008 get new mild hybrid powertrain

Peugeot is introducing a new 48V mild hybrid powertrain for the 3008 and 5008, slashing fuel consumption by some 15%.

First customer deliveries of the mild hybrid Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models start in summer 2023

The new powertrain replaces the previous PureTech 130 EAT8 and combines a 136hp 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine with a six-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox that features an integrated electric motor.

The powertrain will also arrive imminently in other models including the 208, 2008, 308, 308 SW and new 408.

It stands out from other mild hybrid technology for enabling the car to start, manoeuvre and drive at low speed in heavy traffic in 100% electric mode, when the battery allows it. In urban driving, the 3008 and 5008 Hybrid can be driven more than half of the time in 100% zero-emission electric mode.

In everyday driving, the combustion and electric motors can run in tandem, while at higher speeds the electric motor provides extra torque and up to 12hp of power. The powertrain also enables coasting when the car is decelerating, allowing the electric motor to generate energy to recharge the battery.

Models equipped with the new mild hybrid powertrain will have a specific i-Cockpit digital display showing details such as 100% electric driving, the flow of energy in the system and the battery charge level. They will also be equipped with an AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) which emits a sound outside at up to 18mph to warn pedestrians and cyclists that the vehicle is approaching.

The new mild hybrid forms part of the brand’s three-stage rollout of electrification, as revealed in January in its E-Lion digital event. By 2023, every model in the line-up will be electrified, while by the middle of the decade every model will come with a fully electric option. And by 2030, all Peugeots sold in Europe will be 100% electric.

First customer deliveries of the mild hybrid Peugeot 3008 and 5008 models start in summer 2023.
