Nissan Townstar van gains longer wheelbase variant

Nissan has expanded the line-up for the Townstar van with a new longer wheelbase option.

Both EV and ICE versions of the longer wheelbase Townstar van are available to pre-order now

Available in both 100% electric and petrol powertrains, it offers improved cargo capacity and payload, a wider sliding door for easier side access and a longer length said to be akin to a midsize van.

It’s aimed at SME owners, fleet companies and municipalities that require a versatile and efficient transportation solution.

Nicolas Tschann, light commercial vehicle director, Nissan Europe, said: “Poised by the success of the Nissan Townstar Van, we decided to innovate, explore and go even further. With a significantly higher cargo capacity, remarkable payload, impressive towing capacity and increased length, the Townstar L2 has most of the traits of a mid-sized EV van – but at a small van price! This will appeal hugely to SME customers, municipalities and beyond.”

The Nissan Townstar Van L2’s increased length stands at 4,910mm, allowing for a wider side door of 831mm, which enables customers to load one Euro pallet – and is said to give greater versatility in terms of loading options to other competitors.

Cargo capacity meanwhile rises to 4.3m³; a significant increase on the L1’s capacity of 3.3m³, while still matching the two Euro pallet capabilities and adding additional space.

Meanwhile, payload increases to 800kg, thanks to revised rear suspension, while the maximum towing capacity of 1,500kg remains the same.

Operators can choose from the petrol version or the fully electric model. The petrol features a 130hp 1.3-litre engine, fully compliant with latest Euro 6d-Full emissions regulations and producing 240Nm of torque.

The electric Townstar L2 uses a 122hp motor, giving 245Nm of torque, while the 45kWh battery delivers a WLTP range of up to 171 miles (or 242 miles on the urban cycle). It’s able to charge at 11/22kW AC or up to 80kW DC.

The Townstar van L2 also comes with an array of active and passive safety features common in most Nissan models and including Blind Spot Warning, ProPilot and Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor.

It also features the brand’s five-year/100,000-mile warranty and eight-year battery warranty.

Both EV and ICE versions of the Townstar Van L2 are available to pre-order now, with basic list prices starting from £21,625 for the petrol and £33,945 for the fully electric model. Prices exclude VAT/OTR charges/PiVG where applicable.
