Nexus appoints first chief technology officer

Nexus Vehicle Rental has appointed Ian Baxter as its inaugural chief technology officer, further driving its strategic vision.

Ian Baxter, CTO at Nexus Vehicle Rental

Baxter brings a proven track record of digital innovation and leadership spanning more than 20 years across global FTSE 250, as well as Fortune 200 companies. He joins from Avnet and Farnell, the industry leaders in B2B electronics distribution, where he’s credited with having spearheaded the biggest digital transformation in the company’s history.

David Brennan, executive chairman, commented: “With Ian joining the team as our first chief technology officer, we are focused on strengthening our business proposition going forward. Ian’s impressive experience and expertise bolsters our strong management team and the appointment of this new role highlights the evolution of our business.”

Baxter added: “Nexus is a unique business which has always been at the forefront of technology innovation. I am really looking forward to taking on this new opportunity as CTO and I’m excited to work on accelerating the growth plans of an industry-leading business in the mobility sector.

“Working with a world-class team, we are already planning a series of digital innovations that will fuel future technology evolution and provide a frictionless experience to delight our customers at Nexus.”

Based in Leeds, Nexus has more than 20 years’ experience in developing innovative technology to make business mobility efficient and effective. Its IRIS rental management software enables 90% of all rental bookings to be made without any human interaction and over two million rental bookings have been made in this way, often confirmed within seconds.

The company was acquired in January 2023 by private equity firm Equistone Partners Europe, which took a majority stake for an undisclosed sum. Equistone said Nexus operates a unique business model and that the attractiveness of its proposition had been demonstrated over many years.
