New online tool raises awareness of drug driving dangers for fleets
The online guide was created by car experts Evans Halshaw in response to the news that UK police will soon be equipped with Drugalyser tests, which can detect traces of cannabis on a driver's breath.
The resource covers the effects of cannabis, cocaine and LSD, and explains their effect on the brain as well as performance on the road.
The website describes the effects on a user's driving, such as speed, response time and perception, and goes on to explain how these are caused by the drug's impact on different areas of the brain. Readers can explore down to neuron level to learn just how chemical levels are affected by each drug.
Currently, a roadside Field Impairment Test is used to determine whether a driver is under the influence of drugs. The Drugalyser is due to be released for use in all police stations within two years and will test for cannabis, while detection technology for other drugs such as ecstasy and cocaine is currently in development.
Victoria Finn, marketing manager at Evans Halshaw, said: ‘We hope this website will allow people to learn more about the dangers of drug driving and raise awareness around the new Drugalyser test. Safe driving and road awareness is at the forefront of everything we do at Evans Halshaw, so it's important to us to get the message across to all UK drivers that getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs is simply unacceptable.’
