Moto and Gridserve have opened their latest ultra-rapid charging hubs, located at Moto Grantham and Moto Leeming Bar on the A1 and A1(M).

Six chargers have gone live at Leeming Bar in Yorkshire

Initially, six chargers have gone online at Grantham in the Midlands and six chargers at Leeming Bar in Yorkshire, with six more scheduled to open at Grantham in June.

This supports the Government target, stated in the 2022 EV infrastructure Strategy, to have six or more rapid or ultra-rapid electric vehicle chargers at every motorway service area in England by the end of 2023.

The 350kW-capable chargers at the Moto sites are able to deliver up to 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes, supplied with 100% net zero carbon energy from Gridserve’s solar farms.

As with all the Gridserve Electric Super Hubs at Moto locations, they accept contactless payment and feature both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors plus at least one extra-wide accessible charging bay for every six EV charging spaces.

The new hubs are part of Moto and Gridserve’s ongoing nationwide work to transform access to charging facilities and reduce range anxiety for EV motorists.

Nationally, the duo has gone live with 48 new ultra-rapid EV charging points across six of Moto’s motorway service areas this year.

Moto now has 154 ultra-rapid Gridserve Electric Super Hubs located at 19 service areas.

Latest Zap-Map charging stats show access to charging points continues to substantially increase. At the end of April 2023, there were 42,566 electric vehicle charging points across the UK, across 24,909 charging locations. This represents a 37% increase in the total number of charging devices since April 2022.

But geographical distribution remains patchy and on the UK’s motorway network, where drivers are more likely to be traveling longer haul and require quicker and more convenient high-powered charging, access to charging points has been limited.
