Mobile phone usage is biggest pet hate for 70% of road users

A customer study by Warrantywise found that almost 70% of respondents stated that drivers using their mobile phones was one of the most annoying habits.

Almost half of those questioned also stated that potholes were a major cause of annoyance, with a further 60% of respondents quoting over/undertaking as a major frustration. A third admitted that drivers who do not indicate properly were a main source of infuriation for them, whilst 50% admitted “Boy Racers” as a pet hate.

Surprisingly, cyclists seemed to come out quite favourably overall. Half of respondents said that cyclists on the road were only a minor inconvenience. 40% of people stated the same about pedestrians.

In order, the top five worst issues were as follows:

Richard Hodges of Warrantywise said: ‘We’re relieved that so many people consider mobile phones a major source of frustration. People that use phones whilst driving provide a clear and definite danger to other road users and we’re glad this survey highlights that a great many UK drivers also take this view.’
